The Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) app developed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection offers a convenient solution for citizens of Visa Waiver Program (VWP) countries to apply and pay for travel authorization without the need for a visa. This app serves as a mobile version of the ESTA application process and provides access to the same information available on the official ESTA website at https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov.
The current version of the ESTA app includes two key features:
- The "Apply for New Individual Application" feature allows travelers to initiate a new ESTA application, complete payment for the authorization, and submit their application for processing. Through this process, the system evaluates the eligibility of the traveler to visit the United States under the Visa Waiver Program without the requirement of a visa. Once submitted, travelers receive an automated response from the system.
- The "Search for Existing Application" feature enables travelers to conveniently check the status of their previously submitted ESTA application using the app.
It is important to note that U.S. Customs and Border Protection recommends applying for ESTA at the time of travel booking, with a minimum of 72 hours prior to boarding.
